Libby E. Rathert

Associate Attorney

Libby E. Rathert concentrates her practice on the defense of physicians, hospitals, nurses, and other healthcare professionals in medical malpractice and professional liability matters. Working as part of a collaborative, healthcare‑focused defense team, Libby assists clients in navigating complex litigation with a steady emphasis on preparation, clarity, and practical strategy. She values transparency in the attorney‑client relationship and approaches each case with an appreciation for the professional realities faced by healthcare providers.

Libby’s experience spans all stages of litigation, including early case assessment, motion practice, discovery management, and case resolution. She regularly drafts pleadings and substantive motions, responds to and propounds written discovery, conducts detailed legal research, and appears in court for hearings and motion arguments. Libby also has significant experience taking and defending depositions of fact witnesses and medical experts and has participated in numerous jury trials, bench trials, and arbitration proceedings. She is committed to developing a strong understanding of the medical and clinical issues at the center of each case, recognizing that effective advocacy in medical malpractice defense depends on mastery of both medicine and law.

Prior to joining Kamykowski & Taylor, P.C., Libby practiced at the world’s largest labor and employment law firm, where she represented employers in litigation and advised clients on a wide range of workplace matters, including internal investigations involving allegations of discrimination, harassment, and retaliation. She previously worked at a regional boutique firm handling personal injury and insurance defense matters, gaining hands‑on trial experience early in her legal career. During law school, Libby served as a Rule 13 Student Attorney in the Saint Louis University Criminal Defense and Advocacy Clinic and completed a legal externship with the Saint Louis Zoo.

Outside the office, Libby enjoys running, playing pickleball, and exploring new restaurants throughout the St. Louis area.
